06/08/08. We only managed two laps on the Ring this evening, as
the track closed early due to a serious motorcycle accident. Those two laps were
pretty amazing though! A lap is about 13 miles long and has every type of
challenge imaginable - blind crests and bends, banked corners, long straights,
adverse cambers, hairpins, sweeping esses - you name it, it's there. Making it
even more interesting is the variety of vehicles on track. Everything from
plodding people-carriers full of tourists to local nutters in their
stripped-out, barely-legal touring cars. Surprisingly (and rather dangerously I
thought), motorcycles are on track at the same time as cars, and most
were ridden by complete maniacs!
After the track closed, we drove
into Nurburg village to find some food. The picture above shows our cars on the
main road through the village, with BMW's test centre ahead on the left
and the castle in the distance.
