To be different and hopefully save some weight, I've made 4 new wheel arches from 1.6mm aluminium (4 black GRP arches are included in the Firefox body kit). Hub-mounted cycle arches and their brackets seem to be a problem area on many kit cars, so having four of them was asking for trouble. Therefore, I've mounted the rear ones directly to the rear of the chassis and also to the upper boot frame.
For the front arches, I thought the supplied front brackets were a bit flimsy. I cut off the lower flat sections, made some new sections from angle iron, then asked Rod to weld them together.
Rod was also enlisted to machine some spacers for the front brackets.
New, longer 12mm bolts were used to secure the front brackets. The rear brackets were then fitted to the top of the steering arms. 25/09/05
SVA-friendly tail pipe from Halfords. Yes, it's a shiny bit. A small over-centre catch secures the boot lid. To cover the sharp edges, I've riveted a piece of rubber to it. I've used some small "chrome" plastic edge trim from Woolies to cover all the edges of the side panels. Spare nut and bolt covers from the Quantum build were fitted to all contactable fasteners. The original centre mirror mount was too low. Here's the mark 2 version, made from the same 10mm tube as the nose cone bar. Exterior mirrors from Merlin Motorsport.
Custom-made seat cushions. Thanks Dawn!
And finally, a large K&N filter - a bargain from eBay. That rubber pipe is rather heavy though. Ready for the SVA test with two days to spare. |
